MEET MARY, your new camp counselor...

With nearly summer upon us, teepees to erect and docks to paint, blogging 7 days a week has become well… sort of impossible. so, this little blog is reducing the number of posts to 5 per week, and increasing the quality of the content — by way of on-boarding some new CAMP COUNSELORS!

Each of these amazing new folks will be sharing their wisdom and wit for all things camp.
We’ll be introducing them one by one (by way of a little Q+A)

First up: MARY FOXGROVER.

loooong time Wandawega camper, friend, dog lover, creative recruiter and endless source of amusement.

FAVORITE SUMMERCAMP MEMORY
Too many! I went to camp every summer in Minocqua and Boulder Junction, Wisconsin from age 6 to 13. My favorite activity, hands down, was water skiing. Hey! Would you like me to sing Down By The Old Mill stream for you? Get up backwards on water skis? Shoot a 22 rifle from a seated position? Teach you how to use your pants as a floatation device? Just say the word, because I learned all that and more at camp!

TOP 3 FAVORITE SITES / BLOGS FOR INSPIRATION
My friend Nicole’s blog http://somekitchenstories.com is just beautiful with terrific recipes and gorgeous photos taken by Nicole herself. http://nicolezieglerphoto.com

Her apartment was on the Apartment Therapy http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/house-tour-nicole-78701 AND she’s a graphic designer. She’s a powerhouse.

Speaking of apartment therapy: the smallcool contest is underway again http://community.apartmenttherapy.com/contests/smallcool/2012. Kiss at least 5 hours of your life goodbye after you click that link.

http://www.movemodern.com has a link specifically for mid century homes for sale. It’s not updated very often, so many of the homes are no longer available, but it’s still fun to see the inside of some of these fab houses.

http://www.dangerousminds.net —  The smartest, funniest blog about music, film and politics. It’s raunchy and left-leaning and hilarious.

Additionally, PINTEREST!! I’ve found more recipes, home ideas, cool art and rare photos on Pinterest in the past 6 months than I’ve found on my own in 15 years!

PASTIME / HOBBY / OBSESSION
I sit for HOURS looking at houses for sale all over the world on any and all of the real estate sites. Usually while watching House Hunters International. #redundant
Record collectin’, beer drinkin’, cheese eatin’, hikin’ with the dog

I’m obsessed with chairs. I have a tiny living room, but it seats up to 8 people comfortably thanks to my ever-expanding chair collection.

I’m also fascinated with Topanga Canyon, California. Tons of rock stars lived there in the 60s and early 70s. Neil Young recorded After The Gold Rush in his basement studio in Topanga. My boyfriend and I daydream about living in the woods of Topanga all the time. Of course we romanticize the heck out of it, but it really is beautiful.

BEST PIECE OF SCOUT ADVICE
Never, EVER go anywhere without a headlamp. It’s great for everything from reading in a tent to digging for something under the kitchen sink to gardening at night. Best twenty bucks you’ll ever spend.
