Scofflaw has great food and great drinks. I love how simple and straight forward the menu is. There are only a handful of items, but what I have tried has been delicious! The drinks, for you adults, are outstanding as well and they even make their own Gin, called Old Tom Gin, that is in a beautifully designed bottle. Love the touch of using vintage cocktail recipes and putting a modern twist on them!

I am so happy that Scofflaw came to town. It is quickly becoming one of the best cozy gems in the city. The atmosphere is dark, warm and lodge-like with a twist of modern through the accents of wallpaper and lighting.

I mentioned this in my counselor intro, but I have to reiterate: Camp Wildwood is for sale in Topanga Canyon, CA! And has been since late 2011.This camp needs LOVE! Even its sign is begging for a hug...or at the very least a couple of nails for cry eye! Honestly, I don't know that much about Camp Wildwood, but I check often to make sure it's still available even though I could never EVER afford it. I first saw the camp listed for upwards of 6 million bucks, but now the price has dropped to just under 4 million, so gather your rich friends and tell 'em to break out their checkbooks!
The camp was built in the 1920s and turned into a resort and community event center in 1944 (or 1946 depending on which article you read) by longtime Topanga residents Julia and Oka Stewart, who oversaw it for four decades.
Per the listing, the rustic property includes the "original hand-built lodge home & guest cottages, guesthouses, Jr. Olympic swimming pool, with very rare RR zoning (resort & recreational use) PLUS great commercial income from 2 real estate offices and the Fernwood Market!"
From Julia's obituary in the Topanga Messenger
Through long hours of hard work the family transformed that patch of wild woods into a resort that flourished for more than four decades. Camp Wildwood became a gathering place for children and families, and hosted countless events. Many people fondly remember swimming in the pool, picnicking on the grounds, walking the nature trails and attending social events held there. The property also provided a location for several other unrelated small businesses that prospered over the years. Here's a fun article from 2008 about resorts and camps in the Topanga Canyon area. There's even an Camp Elkhorn!
and then make sure to invite me to visit!

After looking at pics of Campo Fiesta, one would think camp can't get any campier, but my 3 brothers all went to a camp in the late 1950s/early 1960s on the SAME LAKE called Red Arrow Camp in Woodruff, Wisconsin. In addition to all the archery, riflery and canoeing, they made their own water skies and canoe paddles in woodworking classes. Red Arrow is still around and going strong and has been for 92 years and the original cabins, built when the camp was used for loggers, are still used! I can't say enough about what camp does for a kid. If you can afford to send your camper away for 7 weeks, even for one summer, do it.
From the Red Arrow site...
Over one hundred years ago Red Arrow was a logging camp so it is natural that most of our buildings are of full log construction. Our large and beautiful dining hall and a recreational building with a stage sit under a canopy of virgin Norway and white pines. Both of these buildings were part of the original logging camp back in the mid-1800’s. Nearby are the twelve unique authentic log cabins which house our 100 campers. They were built in 1920 and have been excellently maintained throughout the years. All have screened windows, electric lights and good solid double bunks. There are eight boys and two counselors in each cabin. Red Arrow is located on Trout Lake, often called the “crown jewel” of northern Wisconsin’s many lakes. Twelve hundred feet of sandy shoreline make a perfect setting for all of Red Arrow’s many water activities.
