"An Ogilvy Chicago Creative Director, Tereasa Surratt, has just published a book about her own personal monumental restoration undertaking – entitled A Very Modest Cottage which is being published by Hearst Press, and I call it to your attention for a couple of reasons.
First, it’s the story of a tiny cottage that her and her husband Dave (who spent several years working at Ogilvy Chicago) bought and restored – and it’s really pretty remarkable.
Not just the act of moving and improving the building itself (which is pretty amazing) – but the enormous history of this little place and the work that she did to uncover it.
I’m a big fan of This Old House and blogs like Brownstoner – this is a lovely book for people who are fascinated by the act of finding beauty in old things. It’s really great – and you can pre-order it here.
There’s also a cool website: averymodestcottage.com
Second, it’s an example of the extraordinary kind of talent you find walking the halls of Ogilvy offices all around the world: writers, photographers, painters, authors and on and on. People with fantastic skills – not all of which is expressed through marketing."
